“Glór cinn galánta aici” - Dónall Mac Ruairí- Raidió na Gaeltachta
Phoenix and Wolfe is an Irish-Brazilian musical duo formed by Ennis singer, songwriter and poet Amanda Ní Sheannáin and Brazilian guitarist and composer Cairo Rocha. Their music brings together Irish traditional music and sean-nós with Brazilian MPB, samba, bossa nova, soul, jazz and contemporary songwriting, creating a sound that moves between cultures, languages and generations.
Their debut album, Stratosfera Brasiléire, is currently being prepared for release, with a series of singles scheduled from early 2027 onwards leading into the full album release. The album reflects the duo’s Irish-Brazilian identity and their interest in bringing traditional and contemporary musical influences into conversation.
The Irish language is an important part of Amanda’s artistic practice and Phoenix and Wolfe’s work. Their version of Cucaneandaí, incorporating a newly written Irish-language verse inspired by the songs collected from Elizabeth Cronin, was played on Clare FM as part of One Day, Many Voices. Their single Slí na Fírinne was also played on Raidió na Gaeltachta’s An Coisir Cheoil, connecting the project with Irish-language audiences and traditional music listeners.
Live performance is central to Phoenix and Wolfe’s work. During Culture Night 2026, they performed with ‘Som do Brasil’ a commissioned show in part as a response to an open call to Súil Gallery, bringing Brazilian popular music and Irish musical identity together in a shared performance. As part of the performance, Amanda translated and adapted sections of Brazilian classics into Irish, creating new points of connection between the Brazilian repertoire and the Irish language and allowing the songs to move between the two cultural traditions.
Phoenix and Wolfe see music as a means of connection: between Ireland and Brazil, between traditional and contemporary music, and between different generations and communities. Their work can place Irish-language and traditional material alongside Brazilian rhythms and contemporary sounds, creating an accessible meeting point for audiences who may come from very different cultural and musical backgrounds.
They have performed at notable venues including Dolans, The Workman’s Club, and festivals such as MNA Festival, Hidden Hearth Festival, Clare Culture Night events, and opened Brazilian Day Gort 2025, and the KINO to open for BEX in August 2025 also. More noteably is their 'Som do Brasil' Culture Night performance September 2026 at Súil Gallery Ennis.
Their collaborations with Irish Women in Jazz, La Mansarda, and Bualadh Busk as well as a growing reputation within the Irish music scene opening for the likes of Dora Gola and Jayne, underscore their commitment to innovative, culturally rich music. Phoenix and Wolfe’s fusion of samba-root jazz with Celtic storytelling creates an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere, resonating deeply with audiences who appreciate genre-blending artistry.
Their musical influences span Brazilian popular music (MPB), jazz, Irish folk, and contemporary world music. Focusing on Latin American rhythms and jazz fusion, they craft sets that invite listeners into rhythmic landscapes infused with warmth, groove, and poetic lyricism.
Ideal for festivals celebrating multiculturalism, innovative folk fusion, and artist-driven experiences, Phoenix and Wolfe are well suited to curated events, and boutique festivals and corporate gigs with their curated sets.
